Charles H Grover
- Private
Pvt. Charles H. Grover of Hampstead, N.H. enlisted in Co. E of the 11th N.H. Inf. Rgt. in the Summer of 1862. Organized at Concord, N.H., and mustered-in to Federal service on 02 Sep. 1862, Pvt. Grover and the 11th N.H. left for Washington, D.C. on 11 Sep. 1862. The 11th N.H. performed guard duty in the defenses of Washington from Sep. to Oct. 1862. In Oct. 1862, the 11th N.H. was assigned to the 2nd Bde. of Brig. Gen. Robert Potter's 2nd Div., Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside's 9th Corps--in which it served with distinction throughout the war. Pvt. Grover was assigned as orderly for Gen. Potter, the 2nd Division Commander. He was mustered-out of Federal service with his regiment on 04 Jun. 1865. During its term of service, the 11th N.H. lost 5 Officers and 140 Enlisted Men who were killed or mortally-wounded-in-action, for a total of 145 combat fatalities.
